Guest editorial from Bryn.......

The Heartbreakers broke hearts again in a surprisingly pleasant way on Saturday evening. The troupe traveled to Mondeaux flowage in the Chequamegon Nat'l. Forest, where they were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd from Westboro and the outlying area.Completing this ensemble is Dean and Gene on guitars, Angie on dobro(!) and bass at times, Russ on accordian when not on bass, Lori on dulcimers, and the whole group on vocals as seen fit. While they played, they were joined by Archie with his good old songs. This time, ECC played while sitting on a stool, and he reports to have had a better time and a more successful time with playing than at the Ogema revival. Someone in the crowd called out, "Play Tennessee Stud!", so Carlo obliged... but only to the end of the first verse/chorus for lack of a sufficient memory of the song ('twill go in the archives of needed repertoire). In other news, (broken up by more perfect pictures of the band)I,Bryn, will be moving to Wausau on Thursday. This will be to a dorm on the UW Marathon Campus. I'm studying various classes: Acting, Sociology, 3rd Sem. Spanish, Choir, Freshman Seminar... etc. I will also be working on campus and bumming around town on two feet. I will be taking with me many useless yet sentimental items, but alas, I will not be taking my cat along. As far as my plans at semester... who knows!!! But never fear, they will be well articulated. This evening I was treated to some more of the same type of pie that Rosie had when she visited on Thursday. Grandma makes the best apple pie ever! (See below for the final view of the pie documentation) The apples are almost finished on the yellow transparent tree, but I got a few good bites before I chucked one into the field. Hmmm... Dad's practicing his guitar in the living room, mixing a little Classic Country(!) with Classical. That's about all, so enjoy the pictures! My time here is done - more next time! And of course the Grand Finale, when everyone joined in!!!!!
I just noticed this alarming thing on the Ogema Revival post, why are there always beer cans on Dad's amp and/or music stand? Is that a good thing? What in the sam hill?!!Oh yeah, this pie test result is from Saturday ;)Well, this is it, folks - the end of 'pi' research for this year.

Almost forgot this!

This was the phase of the pie disappearance that occured yesterday, August 26, 2005. Consider it documented...........

Ogema's hoppin'........

They have a committee, you know. Something about beautifying, energizing, etc, or something, the town of Ogema. A while back they built a little building where the depot used to be, and it kind of looks like it could be a depot (but no rails in sight).... with a roof extending out over a slab on the North end. They have flowers planted at the end of the depot and the surrounding area looks quite nice. It's right on the Pine Line trail, the one made on the old Soo Line right-of-way. So... the committee has been trying to get some events going in town. Cathy and Lyle Blomberg have been instrumental in getting this going and Cathy arranged for us to play there. When we got there we found a big tent set up, brats cooking and corn roasting on a huge charcoal grill, a concession area in the depot with soda, etc, to go with the food. They figured there was about 150 people there, quite busy for a Thursday night in Ogema! We started at 7:00 and played for about an hour, people seemed to like it O.K. but weren't asking for autographs...... one of the organizers used our mic and told about the event and said we were volumteers and they weren't paying us. He set a basket out in front of us and said people should donate for the band... Later he worked his way through the crowd and collected money. We ended up with a nice amount. I played like crap but we had a good time anyway. The second set we played seemed more well received by the crowd, and some even cheered at the end of some songs like "Six Days on the Road" and "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain". We played until 9:30 and we went home with a dozen ears of sweet corn to boot. As you can see, we even have some groupies that follow is everywhere. We have more groupies but Rosie was taking the pix so was not in that photo, and Ivan goes to bed too early to allow such frolic on a Thursday evening...... So we had a good time, people seemed to enjoy it and we finished off the evening with a group photo around the lighted marquee with our name on it!! Who says life is too slow and dull up here in da stiks?

Isn't this lovely

This was sent by an avid blog viewer from the Western regions. Will need to ride my motorcycle across that bridge someday!

Guest editorial from Rosie........

Well, I'm sitting where this all began! The land on which sits the Ottertail Lodge......I drove up from Wausau today to hear one of the last performances of the season by the ever
so famous band, Dean and the Honky-tonk Heartbreakers. (In which Dad plays a mean guitar!) The event is going to take place in Ogema where there is a sign stating live music, along with brats and corn for all! How can you beat that? I should also mention that upon arriving at Grandma's, my mouth immediately began watering and lead me to a piece of the best apple pie ever! :-) Anyway, I've assigned myself as the on staff photographer for the gig tonight so be prepared for pics that will someday be famous and you will have seen them first on this blog! There is also a tree that is already turning to it's fall colors up here.... I'm not ready! So, camera in hand, I'm heading to town..signing out~ Rosie

The Great Apple Caper

As you know, I was going to attemtp to document the gradual dis-appearance of "the pie". Imagine my surprise when I came home today! The pie looked like this..... At first I thought it was mice, or bigger visitors. As it turned out, it was much larger visitors. Seems that our friend, Mary Ostling, and her sisters had been down here a few times to collect apples. Apples are falling steadily and there are still a big bunch on the tree. I picked a few tonight so Lucy could take some down to Muriel..... did you catch that Sunset?? Debbiecakes??
Here is what I am going to attack in a few minutes... So the fact of the matter is that Lucy treated Mary O. and Nancy Longseth and Dibby to pie when they were here. Oh well, I'll just have to start over. It's a nast job, but someone has to do it ;-)
So, here we go again folks! Here is a luscious little photo of the 'new test model'. I'll keep you up to date.......

New idea for ribbon.........

This just in from Pat Robertson, the founder of the Christian Coalition and a presidential candidate in 1988, said Chavez, one of Bush's most vocal critics, was a "terrific danger" to the United States and intended to become "the launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said during Monday broadcast of his religious "The 700 Club" program.

"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

In his broadcast, Robertson said: "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.

"It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."

This was only the most recent explosive Robertson remark. Criticizing the State Department in 2003, he said "maybe we need a very small nuke thrown off on Foggy Bottom to shake things up."

Robertson's "700 Club" reaches an average 1 million American viewers daily, according to his Web site.

Someone at work the other day said "With all these people here claiming God is on our side, and proclaiming 'God bless the USA!!', when presented with the opportunity to act in a Christian way and forgive someone who harms us, do they do it? No, it's shock and awe!!!!

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!!

Which leads me to this latest ribbon idea..........

"Who Would Jesus Bomb?"

It's late summer!

And we all know what that means..... apple pieThis is how it looks when made with Ottertail grown Yellow Transparents, by Lucy, the Supreme Chef.!!!!

I believe there was a message stating that the Lucy style pie was the best he had ever tasted (Big Mike). He is, of course, absolutely correct. I will try to keep you visually aware of this pie's future.......

Back up a bit........

Here are a few pics of a typical day of fishing at Lake of the Woods. The shoreline is nearly all rock, BIG solid rock with red pine somehow growing out of it. Really a beautiful lake....

The moon was visible each morning as we headed out.

We head out following Dan.

and a couple of boats following us. These were common views!!!

A few random views of the lake.

Heading through a really narrow, three foot deep channel into Blueberry.

Relaxed in a bay.

Mmmmm..... walleye!

Carlo gets a small mouth bass.

Gramps helping Mycal land a Northern.

Greg gets a nice small mouth.

Rick's 40" Northern

Heading back to base.

Ivan and the guys start filleting the catch.

Re-thinking Mountain, Wi.

Perhaps we have had our first and last trip to Mountain..... Ma said she heard on the news that there were several murders there on Sunday night???? It was probably caused by the yahoo that started excavating across the road at 7:00 A.M. on Sunday morning. Or the owner of the incessantly barking bear hounds. Or any number of other obnoxious people tricks that take place in that area
!!

In other news, check out what this guy said.... ""..NASA planned to bring the spacecraft down Tuesday in Florida, California or possibly even New Mexico. "We will attempt to land somewhere," flight director LeRoy Cain said..""
That would make me feel safe if I were in the shuttle..... Am I missing something with this next bit?? The bits of pyro cloth that were sticking out between the heat sheild tiles were pulled out by the spacewalker. Great jubilation ensued. So,,,,, why did they put the junk in there in the first place if they can just yank it out, toss it away into space and not have a worry about it??? Why was it there if you can take it out and smile?

I'm going to throw in a few pix below. This year the yellow transparent tree by the shed started a bumper crop of apples. For a couple of weeks apples have been dropping!! In late July/early August. I'm thinking it's from the lack of moisture. Anyone have any thoughts?

I gotta go, Carlo

Loads of apples! More than I've ever seen on this tree.

And lots on ground each day. A little early....

Mountain expedition.

We made a last minute decision to motorbike over to Mountain, Wi, to test out new camper we pull with the bike. Oh, yeah, to visit Liz and Dennis, Kevin and Linda and Spike, and Debbie.

Left from Ogema at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, left Mountain Sunday at 2:00 P.M. Very hot and humid, not the best biking weather but someone has to do it........

I have so many photos that I have a hard time deciding which to put in here. Time issues, you know. Am still thinking about DSL in Phillips, even though the price seems like a rip. Also considering a subscription to Flickr photo sever. That way I could upload at my leasure and then link to slide shows or albums on their server and anyone could see the total "take", if they had the interest. We'll see........

Saturday preparations for the journey to Mountain.

Here it is, the Mountain hideaway. Really a pretty cool spot.

Yram is always there to greet people.

O.K., the camper is set.

Gnomes and 'things' guard the premises.
